When Street Harassment Is Stalking
7.5 million people are stalked every year in the United States. And nearly 10% of victims were stalked by a complete stranger.
At CASS, many stories we hear are how catcalling on the street can develop into stalking.
Just this week, we heard from a woman who reported being stalked in Arlington. A red SUV drove by her, then waited at the intersection for her to catch up so he could leer at her a second time. A similar incident occurred in Shaw recently. Other stories we’ve heard include stalking situations in grocery stores, laundromats, and parks. Many have even been followed home by their harassers.
This National Stalking Awareness Month, we want to remind you of the resources available to victims and how to report incidents. Get the fast facts and information you need here.
