Advocacy & Action Updates
October has been a busy month for CASS as we work to make D.C. safe for everyone. Here’s a peek at what our policy team has been up to, and some ways you can take action before the end of the month:
- Canvassing for safety beyond police: Last weekend, we held the first of two metro station canvassing events advocating for the decriminalization of sex work and fare evasion. Join us this Saturday, October 27 from 12-3pm to learn more about our campaign and help us canvas to bust myths about sex work. Email Leah at leah@collectiveactiondc.org for more information and to RSVP.
- Engaging our Safe Bar Collective members: Members of our Safe Bar Collective are stepping up to promote Domestic Violence Awareness Month and support the public restrooms bill! Bar staff participated in Purple Thursday as well as hung posters and signed a letter of support for the restrooms bill.
- Speaking out for a culture of safety: DC Councilmember Brianne Nadeau is holding a forum on transforming safety next Monday, October 29 from 6-8pm. Attend to help CASS promote community-based visions of safety: email leah@collectiveactiondc.org to get involved.
- Working to end police terror: This past Monday, CASS marched alongside Stop Police Terror Project DC to help stop racist criminalization, harassment, and mass incarceration and work toward real safety. Keep an eye out for a powerful new Stop Police Terror Project campaign challenging police brutality coming soon!
Looking to get more involved with CASS? Join our team! We’re hiring for two part-time positions: a Training Coordinator and a Communications & Development Coordinator.
We hope to see you at our events as we close out a powerful and productive month!
